Hello! Pioneer believes we will start mid-July. Excited? Pioneer plans and divides the fields so that everyone gets their share. Some detasselers may begin before you. Be patient, you’ll get enough days to tire you.
Where and When: Normal field time is 7:30 up to 3:30. (that would be up to a 7.5 hour normal work day)
Limited fields in the beginning and at the end of the season or weather can cause workers to be returned before the scheduled time. Please plan ahead for this possibility. For an early return our bus drivers will allow workers off along the routes traveled. Report to work when it is storming in the morning. You will be paid to wait inside of shelter for the danger to pass. Please report when the heat index is high. On those days we try to schedule extra workers so that everyone can return early. By reporting you are protecting others from a longer day in the heat.
Attendance: More than one unexcused absence may result in termination. Necessary absences must be excused in advance. Workers who take weekends off and have various appointments and sick days miss out on their opportunity to earn money.
Reminders: Defend against the sun. (sunblock, hat, long sleeve light cotton shirt, old tennis shoes, etc.)
Defend against the cold and wet. (poncho or garbage bag, sweatshirt, jeans or sweats etc.)
Gloves and glasses are required. The first pair of each will be furnished. Use closed toe shoes. When you perspire, you lose water and salt. We keep water with each crew, but you may want other drinks. Keep your lunch separate from anyone else's and in an insulated bag. We are recommending that workers bring all their stuff in a backpack that can be hung from the tractor they ride on.
Ready? Report when you are called. Pioneer gives us about 48 hours notice. We will call everyone though probably not all on the same day. This is an extremely unpredictable business. We try to make it predictable. Please be patient with us.

All who completed their application before June 15th should receive their letter by July 3rd and then a call after that. If you change your phone, please email or call us with the change. If you don't receive a letter with your name, there is a problem with your application. Email or call us.
